Payments Analyst

The payments department needs to provide a service that is fit to accommodate the growth of Clearing across multiple jurisdictions.  The Senior Payments Analyst role is key to ensuring the seamless execution, accuracy, and integrity of our payment operations across global markets. It is one which is critical in managing and optimising the end-to-end lifecycle of payments across the UK, Europe, Singapore, and North America. This includes fiat payment rails (FPS, CHAPS, BACS, SEPA, FAST, and USD wire payments) as well as crypto payment flows and digital asset settlements. This role combines operational execution with analytical problem-solving – ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, high-trust environment where payments precision is paramount.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Execution

  • Manage daily settlement and disbursement activities across multiple currencies and payment schemes, including FPS, CHAPS, BACS, SEPA, USD wires (Fedwire, SWIFT), and Singapore FAST/GIRO
  • Investigate and resolve payment exceptions, reconciliation breaks, and processing incidents, maintaining high-quality operational standards.
  • Manage time-sensitive payments and liquidity across key currencies (GBP, EUR, USD, SGD), whilst ensuring control procedures are followed meticulously.
  • Support and deliver accurate regulatory reports to meet governance obligations.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on payment queries, escalations, and investigations.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex investigations, ensuring timely and accurate resolution while maintaining control standards.
  • Coordinate cross-training and succession planning within the team to build resilience and operational flexibility.

Analysis and Reporting

  • Use data to identify patterns, root causes, and performance trends within payment operations.
  • Produce regular reporting dashboards, metrics, and commentary to support decision-making across the business.
  • Challenge and refine existing processes through data-driven insights, contributing to process automation and operational efficiency.

Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with the Product and Tech teams to improve systems, tools, and processes related to payment operations.
  • Drive change initiatives that enhance automation, scalability, and customer experience.
  • Support ongoing audits (internal/ external) by ensuring appropriate documentation and controls are in place.
  • Maintain strong relationships with banking partners and vendors.

Governance and Compliance

  • Ensure all activities adhere to internal control frameworks, AML policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to operational risk management and business continuity planning.
  • Support wider teams during audits, regulatory reviews, or incident investigations.

Essential Experience

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of fostering collaboration across teams and geographies.
  • Hands-on experience in payment operations within fintech, banking, or financial services.
  • Working knowledge of payment schemes ideally across multiple markets.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate operational data into actionable insights.
  • Proven track record managing investigations, reconciliations, and exceptions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with banking controls and regulatory compliance requirements.

Desirable Experience

  • Exposure to international payment schemes or cross-border settlement processes.
  • Experience engaging directly with payment vendors, scheme operators, or regulators.
  • Prior involvement in automation, tooling, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Interest in developing into a leadership or subject matter expert role.
